2010 in a word: Awesome. Unbelievable. Spectacular. Best Year Yet. OK, so more like 6 words. Anyway, here's a play by play of the highlights.
Jan: I rang in the new year with a trip to the beach with my fiance.
Next came trips to visit my future sister-in-laws in their respective cities, Little Rock and Birmingham. O yeah, ran the 1/2 marathons at each city, too. :) Birmingham's 1/2 was my first run at that distance since the knee surgery, so it was a HUGE day for me!
April 17th, I married my best friend and the love of my life.
That by itself is enough to make it a great year :)
May: Gulf Coast Triathlon, my first half-ironman since the knee surgery.
Again, a great success just to complete it, made even better by PRing that distance by almost an hour!
May: HONEYMOON! 'Nuff said :-)
June: Finished residency. YAY!! Very exciting to be done working as slave labor, and to FINALLY be the one who gets to call the shots! Bittersweet though, as I've made SO MANY good friends over the last 3 years in Jackson, and had to leave them behind.
July: THE MOVE. 17 hour drive cross country, all in one day. Final destination: Alamogordo. The Gord.
August: New Orleans for a week of eating great food and catching up with old friends...I mean, for a week long Board Review Course.
October: American Board of Pediatrics National Certifying Examination-killed it! :) Then home for a few days to visit the family.
November: Our first trip to Phoenix, where we watched IM Arizona-
and signed up for next years race. Goosebumps and butterflies every time I think about it! But then again, I haven't actually started training for it yet-ask me again in a month how I feel :-)
December: Our first trip to Las Vegas. Joy was there actually doing something constructive/productive, I just tagged along to have some fun :-)
And to do the Vegas 1/2 marathon, which I did, and PR'ed that distance by almost 5 minutes!
And then it was Christmas! Got to go home and be with my family for the first time in FOUR years for Christmas, which was awesome :-) Then we made our way down to Memphis and spent a few days with Joy's family. So I got to have TWO Christmases this year!!
Looking back, I have to say that 2010 was pretty freakin amazing! If 2011 is even half as good, I'll definitely be the luckiest guy in the world again this year :-)
Yes- you had a wonderful year. I didn't even realize you hadn't been home for Christmas in so long. I am happy for you, doctor!!!
ReplyDeletePS- stop tormenting me with pics of your 808s.
